Hi everyone! Here we are, the last day of August and Labor Day weekend approaching. I cannot believe the summer has gone by so fast. We have had a wonderful August, despite the record breaking heat. Poor little Jack hasn't spent much time outside this summer since it is regularly over 100 degrees with the heat index! We are hoping for a nice fall. Jack celebrated his third month with a weigh in on August 25 at 14 lbs 5 oz - that is a slow down of the pace of weight gain, but still puts him in a pretty high percentile. It was also on a different scale so Mommy took him today for an actual weigh in at the pediatrician's and he's now 14 lbs 13 oz. He's still gaining nearly an ounce a day!
Jack has really turned into a happy baby lately! He grins all the time when he is awake - really the only time he's very fussy these days is when he's tired. We are battling catnaps like we did with Sophie - so since he takes 45 minute naps, he doesn't stay up very long in between them. Mommy is getting good at reading the sleep cues though and this has resulted in a very happy little guy during his awake times. He's spacing out the feedings a bit, which is nice. You can see from some of the pictures that he is developing his neck and shoulder strength - I don't really give him enough tummy time, but he seems to be right on track! He loves to stand and bear weigh on his legs and so we just put him in the exersaucer - took him a day or two, but now he loves it! About the only negative things to report are that he seems to be losing more hair (oh well!) and the night sleep is not that great. Mommy is working on a gentle sleep training method so we'll see how that goes. We won't be surprised if a tooth pops out in the next month - he is drooling and chewing on his hands like crazy, and Sophie got her first one at 4 months - who knows?
Sophie is doing great too! We are suffering from a lack of pictures of Sophie this month because she's gone back to school three days a week and most of the pictures I take are ones from when Jack and I are home alone - sometimes there is little to do besides have a photo shoot :) She is loving the four year old classroom at school and making new friends - there is a new girl in the class who is also named Sophie, which seems to be one of Sophie's new best friends. Sophie is obsessed these days with getting married - no doubt a direct result of all the princess movies we have exposed her to :) The other day, she came home from school and told us she was making a list of all the things she needed to do to get married. We asked her what was on it and she said, "I need to get a pretty white dress, and sparkly shoes, and flowers for my hair, and have somebody to kiss..." The list went on and it was pretty darn accurate! Luckily we have her convinced that she has to be thirty one before she can get married so hopefully she'll internalize that :)
Mommy is happy to report that her awesome job has agreed to some extra maternity leave, so I don't have to go back until October 12. And then, it will only be three days a week so that ought to be palatable - I'm sure the return of a paycheck will be nice :)

Jack is so cute. He looks so much like Andrew and Sophie to me.
Do these outfits look familiar? We love Janie and Jack, but only have a few since we have to buy two and they are so expensive. This photo was taken about 5 months ago, but these outfits still fit!
