A very belated welcome to the world to our precious little boy, Jack Andrew Renda! He arrived on May 25, 2010 at 5:02 pm and weighed in at 7 lbs 10 oz and 19.5 inches long. Had I known what a voracious eater he was going to be, I would have definitely updated the blog in the hospital - but I must say, I had no idea that a baby could nurse as much as this one does! Between the constant nursing and also trying to do fun things with Sophie in the little time I have between feedings, there just isn't too much time for things like updating the blog! But here we go!
Jack decided to make his appearance on the Tuesday before Memorial Day. Mommy went on to work, not thinking anything was happening. I started having contractions shortly after I arrived at work, but they were pretty irregular. They got progressively more painful but still weren't very regular - at that point I decided I'd rather be at home because they really kind of hurt! I called Andrew at 10:30 and by the time we met up to head home from downtown, the contractions were about five minutes apart.
When we got to the hospital, I was just dilated to a 3 but they decided to keep me in because they saw a deceleration in the baby's heartbeat. We got to the hospital a little before noon and I was in a room by 1 and got my epidural shortly after. By mid-afternoon, I was at a 6 and I was fully dilated and ready to push by 4:40. I started to push a little before five and after two contractions, there he was! It couldn't have been a better experience and we are just in love with little Jack. The pictures here are from the hospital the first couple of days - I'm going to try to do a few more posts over the next few days.
As you can see from the pictures, Sophie is VERY excited about being a big sister. She has been adorable with Jack and all in all is adjusting very well. As I write this today (five weeks into Jack's life), Sophie still adores her little brother and is so sweet with him. Andrew and I can see the 'adjustment' manifesting itself in some minor attitudinal issues towards us, but so far she has been nothing but sweet with Jack himself. We did get a laugh the day a couple of weeks ago when she asked us in the car, "Is Jack going to be here, like, for always?" We said yes, and she was like, "oh, okay." Like she was just checking :)
Enjoy the photos! Happy five week birthday Jack :) PS - check out the link at the upper left of the blog for a web album with even more photos. I'll keep adding more links with photos as we do more updates!
