Week 5 - COLIC :(

Ah, the joys of parenthood :)

Sophie has been screaming, inconsolably, for a week now. We took her into the GP on Friday, and she worried her enough to refer us into the Children's University Hospital. After a careful examination, the paediatrician decided she has a bad case of colic.

The good news is that it will resolve by 4-6 months without any long term consequences. The bad news is that the etiology of colic is poorly understood and there isn't a proven treatment for it. At the moment, we're trying Infacol (simethicone), Colief (lactase) and Gaviscon infant. Oh, and Sophie won't sleep in anything except her car seat, so the car seat now sits inside our nicely decorated crib :)

Needless to say, the three of us aren't sleeping much these days and we're all a bit cranky. In her quiet moments, though, Sophie is really sweet. She knows her mom and dad by sight and voice, and her eyes get wide and her cries a little less piercing when we're around. We can't help but smile when she grabs our fingers or nuzzles into our shoulders. And, yes, the top picture above along with those from her first bath will be shown at her rehearsal dinner someday. Revenge will be sweet, love :)

Love from a tired daddy,
Andrew

Oh Kate and Andrew! I am so so sorry to hear about this! I know it is not only hard to see your baby suffer, but to not get any sleep can make it worse. You two make a great team and I know that you can help each other through this rough time. I wish I was there to help!!! Keep that colicy baby some love from Savannah and me, maybe that will help her out. Tee hee! Hang in there! Only a lifetime of more torturing to go! :) Love you guys!
