All thawed out!

What's that you're saying? That's an awful lot of snow for Kentucky? Oh no, look closer - not just snow, it's ICE!!!! That's right everyone, we got hit by a massive ice storm that caused the biggest power outage in Kentucky state history. Yes, even bigger than the September outage that resulted from the freak Hurricane Ike remnants that swept through. We were pretty silly back then complaining about being without power for a week when it was 65 degrees and you could just open your windows and be comfortable - didn't occur to any of us that we'd be put back in that same situation less than six months later when it was nearly zero. We were fortunate that Dan and Candy didn't really lose theirs (it was flickering because there were branches sitting on the wires) so we stayed there for a few days and then went to visit Todd and Nikke in Northern KY where the utility company is smart enough to have buried power lines so they don't have this problem! Our power was out for five and a half days and we got it back at halftime of the Super Bowl. Here are some pictures to enjoy of the snow and ice. Notice the one below, in the distance you can see the massive tree that blocked our way out of one of the entrances to our neighborhood.

And then this weekend, it thawed out - it was 65 degrees on Sunday and was nearly 70 today! We took advantage of the nice weather to go to the zoo! I know you all will think that the rhino statue looks familiar - you will be seeing a lot of him as we are zoo members now and it just makes the cutest pictures :) Sophie loves it as you can see!

Sophie loves riding on the elephant on the merry go round!

Happy February everyone - bring on Spring!

Love,
Kate, Andrew and Sophie
